FIRST CLASS FOREVER
The project came about after we learned about the attack on August 26th that killed 13 young military men and women. I immediately worked on a portrait of Johnny "Joey" Jones which sparked the idea for the "thirteen". I then emailed Bill Hemmer of FOX News with my idea and a proposal. He loved it. And that encouraged me to finish the collection.
I literally couldn't sleep until I had finished the last one. Bill referred to them as "Sacred paintings".
The process: While most of my work is hand painted canvas, I also use the computer to generate images for handmade stencils and silk screens. It's a rather tedious process of layering the composition with background color, graphics and of course, the image or subject itself.
